Equipment price is the easy number.

A complete quote may include the media tank or housing, a sediment prefilter, bypass, pressure gauges, shutoffs, unions, drain provisions for backwashing systems, and code-required plumbing work. Some systems need electrical power or a floor drain; others do not.

Internet prices rarely describe the same installation. Pipe size, location, access, pressure, service flow, existing loops, and local labor all change the total. Obtain a site-specific quote before treating a product price as the installed cost.

Consumables can reverse the ranking.

A long-life media tank may still require sediment cartridges every few months. A compact cartridge housing may have a lower installed footprint but a costly proprietary annual replacement. Build a dated schedule for every required consumable.

Pressure loss is part of household fit.

A system can advertise a high flow rate while imposing a meaningful pressure drop at that flow. Compare rated service flow and the associated pressure loss, then check the home’s incoming static and dynamic pressure.

Undersizing can produce disappointing shower and fixture performance. Oversizing without a treatment reason can add cost and footprint. A plumber can measure the conditions that a national product table cannot.

Use one spreadsheet for every contender.

For each exact model, total the installed quote plus all published replacements over ten years. Keep uncertain labor and future prices separate instead of hiding them inside a false-precision total. Then compare only systems that have the right verified reduction claim and adequate flow.
